What Is “Jade”?

Types of Jade include: Jadeite, Nephrite Jade. Jade is found in a wide variety of colours due to trace metals in the mineral's chemical makeup.

The term jade refers to two distinct minerals: jadeite and nephrite. Though both are commonly called jade and can look similar, they differ in chemistry, formation, physical properties, and occurrence. Because of their visual similarities and cultural use, people often lump them together, but gemologists distinguish them carefully.
