Smudging: Hold the stick at a slight angle away from your body and light the tip of the stick until there is a small flame. After 60 seconds, blow out the flame so only smoke is produced. Place in a fireproof bowl and gently blow on embers or fan the stick with a feather or smudge wave when needed. Use the smoke from burning Sage to smudge a space (or yourself) by fanning the smoke around you using your hand or a feather.
Burning Cedar: Place a small bundle of dried leaves in a heat-resistant container and light it up. Gently blow on embers or fan the stick with a feather or smudge wave when needed. Use the smoke to cleanse your space by wafting it around the space.
