Origins: A super-cooled liquid formed into a rock during the last stages of volcanic eruption, it is actually a mixture of cryptocrystalline grains of silica minerals in a glass-like suspension. Obsidian is primarily found in volcanic regions worldwide, forming from rapidly cooled silica-rich lava, and is mined in specific locations across North and South America, Europe, and Asia.

Obsidian is the most common form of natural volcanic glass. Classed as a rock not a mineral, Obsidian occurs in many varieties including Black, Goldsheen, Mahogany and Snowflake.
