A brief overview of Runes and Rune casting

Runecasting is an excellent method for exploring the subconscious and communing with the spiritual realm. It can be used to help answer questions regarding your future, during astrological transits (retrogrades and Saturn returns) or for meditation purposes.

WHAT ARE RUNES?

Ancient runes are small slabs of stone, crystal, or wood with engraved symbols that contain meaning. Developed prior to the Latin alphabet, rune symbols have been used for divination for thousands of years.

WHAT IS RUNE CASTING?

Rune casting is a form of divination that focuses on exploring the subconscious and getting advice. If you are ready to begin exploring unknown aspects of yourself, then reading runes is a great way to start.

Rune casting layouts can be as easy or as complicated as you feel comfortable with from a simple yes or no question to three, four, five or even nine rune spreads for more experienced rune casters.

INTRODUCTION TO RUNE CASTING

First, grab a rune set that speaks to you or make it yourself. Once you have your rune set, it’s time to start reading and practising!

Step 1: Ask Your Question

First, you want to figure out what question to ask because a rune stone won’t give you much direction if you don’t have a question in mind. For example, you may want to know what to focus on for the day or alternatively, what you need to know about or focus on that day. 

Choose the question that you feel is best to ask and write it down with the date.

Step 2: Mix Your Runes

Choose your method. You can draw one rune at a time or create a personalised spread – the choice is yours.

Now it’s time to let your intuition guide you as you mix the stones in your pouch and focus intently on your question.

Step 3: Pull Your Rune Stones

Retrieve one rune from your pouch. As you set down each rune and look at the symbol, pay attention to all images, words, ideas, or thoughts that come to mind. This is your intuition beginning to speak, and a sign that reminds you that your soul is connected to a greater Universal energy that is there to guide you.

TIP: While you’re still learning the meaning of each rune, it will be much clearer if you just pull one rune at a time.

Step 4: Write Down Your Impressions

Even if some of your thoughts don’t make sense right away, write them all down. Once you have captured any initial thoughts, read the rune’s meaning. Write down the insights that come to you when you compare the rune’s meaning to your question.

You can revisit your journal entries later and you’ll see your insights are very useful and will continue to get more accurate over time. If you’re given guidance to do something and aren’t sure why, you’ll often understand later, and your rune casting intuition will be strengthened.
