One of the most fragrant woods in the world, the wood of the palo santo tree is available as sticks, chips, or powder and comes from fallen branches of the tree that have been dried several years.
Related to Frankincense and Myrrh, Palo Santo’s aroma is described as lemon, mint, pine, and woodsy. When the wood is burned, it produces a sweet, woody scent with notes of citrus and mint. Its scent is invigorating and grounding.

The burning of smudge sticks is called smudging. Smudging is the ancient ceremony of cleansing yourselves and others with smoke from certain herbs. Smudging is used to cleanse a person, place or objects of negative energies, spirits or influences. Native American cultures traditionally used smudge sticks in spiritual ceremonies and to remove negative energies and spirits. HOW TO USE PALO SANTO
Here are some easy and straightforward tips on how to use it for energy clearing:
Smudging: Hold the Palo Santo stick at a slight angle away from your body, and light the tip of the stick until there is a small flame. After 60 seconds, blow out the flame so only smoke is produced. Place stick in a fireproof bowl and gently blow on embers or fan the smoking stick with a feather or smudge wave when needed. Use the smoke from burning stick to smudge a space (or yourself) by fanning the smoke around you using your hand or a feather.
Burning Sage: Place some shavings of Palo Santo wood in a heat-resistant container and light it up. Gently blow on embers or fan the stick with a feather or smudge wave when needed. Use the smoke to cleanse your space by wafting it around the space.
Meditation: Light the Palo Santo stick before you begin your meditation practice. The smoke helps to calm and centre your mind, for deeper meditation practice.
