Citrine is known as the ‘Success Stone’. Citrine holds the energy of wealth and abundance, and it is believed that its sunny colour brings success, prosperity, and abundance, especially in business. It is sometimes placed into the cash register and therefore called the ‘Merchant’s Stone’.

Origins: Citrine is the name given to the yellowish/orange variety of Quartz with trace amounts of Iron. Citrine is the yellow to red-orange variety of crystalline quartz. Mining actually yields very little citrine. Natural citrine stones usually occur in pale lemon yellow colors, often with smoky tones to rich orange colour with red flashes. The vast majority of citrine on the market are heat-treated^.

A powerful cleanser and re-generator, Citrine is believed to absorb negative energy. Citrine can increase creativity and personal power and helps to boost confidence and raise self-esteem. It also enhances optimism and intellectual capacity and improves mental clarity when communicating, writing or problem solving.

Treatments & Synthetics^: When quartz is exposed to heat—either naturally beneath the Earth’s surface or through gentle heat treatment—it can take on the golden tones we recognise as Citrine. The vast majority of citrines on the market are heat treated. They are produced by heating smoky quartz (HTS), which produces light to medium yellows), or amethyst (HTA), which produces stronger yellows and orange-red to orange-brown shades. Heat-treated stones may fade when exposed to heat. We denote heat treated amethysts as HTA, and smoky quartz as HTS.

Price Guide: Genuine is rare. In terms of colour and price, at the top end of the scale are prime specimens of the most saturated yellow, orange, and reddish tones. Those with less intense colour fall into lower value ranges, with the pale or smoky stones falling at the bottom.
