Origins

Herkimer Diamonds is a term used for specimens only found in the region of Herkimer County, New York. The stones that are discovered in other regions around the world share an almost identical resemblance. Herkimer's aren't actually diamonds, they are in fact brilliant double-terminated quartz with natural faceting - with each Herkimer having eighteen (18) facets and 2 points. Herkimer Diamonds can occur intertwined, clustered or with small crystals attached to much larger ones. Some Herkimers are completely clear and colourless, while others are smoky. Specimens can also contain rainbow inclusions, air bubbles, enhydros (water bubbles), or black carbon deposits. Usually less than an inch in size, though what they lack in size Herkimer Diamonds make up for in energy. The most powerful of all quartz, the double-termination helps to amplify and focus energy.
