Origins & Geological Properties

Thulite, sometimes known as Rosaline or Pink Zoisite, is a captivating pink variety of the mineral Zoisite. Its enchanting rose colour, ranging from soft pink to deep reddish-pink, is caused by the presence of manganese, which replaces calcium in its crystal structure . Often found mottled with white calcite or quartz, this opaque to translucent stone has a vitreous lustre that makes it a favorite for cabochons, carvings, and ornamental objects .

First discovered in 1820 at Sauland in Telemark, Norway, Thulite derives its name from the mythical island of Thule, which was believed to be ancient Scandinavia . It holds the honor of being the national gemstone of Norway.
