MOLDAVITE PROPERTIES & ATTRIBUTES

Origin: Moldavite is a rare, natural green glass formed by a meteorite impact in ~15 million years ago. Formed from a meteorite, Moldavite it is said to have extra-terrestrial origin. It is a tektite that is only found in the river of the Vltava Valley of Europe, located in what is now the Czech Republic.

Moldavite is difficult to mine and large pieces are rare. As the source is depleted it is growing more expensive. Due to its rarity and popularity, the market is flooded with imitations. True Moldavite is an olive green, and can vary from pale and translucent to different shade of mossy green or dark forest green. Pieces usually have wrinkly surface and inclusions - e.g. gas bubbles are a good indication of real moldavite.
